Need to know how to clean L.L. Bean suede tennis shoes? If you properly clean your L.L. Bean suede tennis shoes, you can keep them looking as good as the day you got them for years to come. When cleaning your suede tennis shoes, you have a few options. One universal procedure for taking care of suede tennis shoes is to protect them before the first wear by applying a water and stain protector. This makes cleaning them later easier as they will not stain as badly.

To clean L.L. Bean suede tennis shoes, you will need:

  • A  shoe brush
  • A suede block
  • A nylon brush
  • A commercial suede cleaner
  • A suede-specific water and stain protector
  • A toothbrush
  • A cloth rag
  1. Once your L.L. Bean suede tennis shoes are worn and become soiled, use a shoe brush to knock off the accumulated dust or dirt. You have a few choices with the stiffness of the brush. For a full suede shoe, use a soft brush. Stiffer brushes work better for lower suede tennis shoes or heavily soiled shoes.
  2. When brushing your suede shoes, the direction of the strokes doesn’t matter. The key is to brush the suede to the point that the nap is pulled up and cleaned out thoroughly. For a stubborn stain, use a suede block and brush the stain with more pressure.
  3. Suede shoes with colors like black, brown or blue can be treated with commercial suede cleaners. These are typically a light dye with water protectant that you apply after the shoe has been brushed free of dirt. Once the final protectant is dry, begin to clean the sole of the tennis shoe. Treat the suede shoes with protectant every time you clean them in order to make future cleanings easier and to prevent stains.
  4. To clean the sole of your L.L. Bean suede tennis shoe, use an old toothbrush. Don’t use the same brush used on the suede as the soles accumulate mud and dirt that can get transferred during the next cleaning.

Repeat these steps until your L.L. Bean suede shoes are completely clean.
