Knowing how to clean Mah Jong tiles will significantly increase the life and vitality of your set. Never wash your tiles in warm, soapy water. This will most likely cause the paint to come off of your Mah Jong set. Just follow these steps to get your Mah Jong tiles looking good as new.
Things you'll need to clean Mah Jong tiles:
- Moist cleaning rag
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Wipe down the Mah Jong tiles with a cool moist rag. This will get rid of dust. It will also give you a better sense of what's going on for each of those tiles.
- Wipe down the Mah Jong tiles with isopropyl alcohol. Use the 90 percent isopropyl alcohol if you can find it. This will help get any adhesives and gunk off the tiles. It won't destroy the paint, which is one of your main goals in this exercise. Let the tiles dry after cleaning and then wipe them down with a damp cloth again. Dried alcohol sometimes leaves a white film and you will want to wipe that off.
- Wipe down the tiles with WD-40 if there is still gunk on them. WD-40 will not destroy your paint or the finish. This is useful if there are any stickers or something of that sort left on the tiles. Wipe the tiles down with a moist rag after you have cleaned them with WD-40.
- Dip a q-tip in acetone and rub any spots that may still be left. Be very careful with this step since most paints can be dissolved by acetone. This is why you are using a q-tip–you need to be accurate. This will be effective if any other paints or inks have gotten on the tiles. Wash tiles off immediately in a glass of water after you have applied acetone.
