How To Clean Plastic

If you are wondering how to clean plastic, read on for tips and tricks. This smooth, synthetic material cleans easily with soap and water or various all-purpose cleaners. Plastic is used in everything from your computer keyboard to food containers, so learning how to clean it is a very useful skill. There are no set ways in which you do this – choose whichever cleaning solution works best for your type of plastic. Stains can be removed with an eraser sponge, bleach spray, or scrubby sponge. If you will be eating off of the plastic surface, make sure to rinse or wash all of the cleaner away.

To clean plastic, you'll need:

  • Dish soap
  • Bleach Spray
  • All-purpose cleaning spray
  • Dual-sided sponge
  • Paper towels
  • Cloths
  • Eraser sponge
  1. Choose a cleaner for your plastic. Spray your cleaner onto the plastic surface. If you want to use dish soap, apply a few drops to a wet sponge and create a light lather. Use your dual-sided or eraser sponge, paper towels, or a cloth to wipe down the plastic. Take care not to scratch the surface of shiny plastic. If you can't remove the stains and need to use bleach, first rinse away all of the chemical residue. Mixing chemicals can cause harmful fumes.
  2. Remove tough stains by spraying the plastic with bleach. Allow the bleach to sit for about ten minutes or until it fades away. Use a clean, damp sponge to rinse away the residue.
  3. Allow your plastic to air dry, or dry it with a clean cloth or paper towels. How you choose to dry it is up to you, depending on what the plastic will be used for.
