If your PS3 is giving you a hard time when trying to read your seemingly clean discs, it may be time for you to learn how to clean a Playstation 3 lens. Unfortunately, with a laser lens like the one inside of the Playstation 3, contracting dust particles and other obstructions is almost inevitable. The good news is that cleaning a Playstation 3 lens is a simple process in most cases.

To clean a Playstation 3 lens, you will need:

  • DVD Lens Cleaner
  • Compressed Air Duster
  • Handheld Vacuum
  1. Use a DVD lens cleaner kit to initially try to fix the problem. Sometimes, all that it takes to clean a Playstation 3 lens is a good clean-through from a trusty DVD lens cleaner kit. Before trying anything else, purchase a dvd lens cleaner and follow the directions indicated on the dvd lens cleaners package. This is the easiest and most hassle free way to deal with a dirty PS3 lens.
  2. If the first step did not work, use an air duster or vacuum to attempt to blow/vacuum the dust particles that are hindering the Playstation 3 lens. An air duster is a more forceful approach and should be used cautiously, but in most cases, it’s a successful one. Using a handheld vacuum is also a very effective approach as it draws out most of the dust inside of the Playstation 3 when held up to the disc opening. Use both methods carefully.
  3. If neither the cleaner kit, vacuum or the air duster worked, it may be time to bring your Playstation 3 to a professional. When it seems like the only solution is to clean the lens by opening the console up, it’s highly recommended that you leave this to a professional. Trying to clean the Playstation 3 lens directly, without the proper tools and sanitization area, could lead to a ruined Playstation 3 lens. This is especially true if you’re not sure about how to even open the console up to clean the lens.
