How To Clean A PS3
After blowing your rent money to get a new Sony Playstation, you should learn how to clean a PS3. Depending on your living habits, the PS3 is actually pretty easy to clean. But if you live in a house with a bunch of guys, no vacuum cleaner and if your PS3 sits there on the carpet…well, cleaning it may be a little more challenging.
To clean a PS3, you will need:
- Microfiber cloth wipes
- A PC vacuum
- An LCD cleaning solution
- A toothbrush
- Microfiber cloth wipes are found in the cleaning section of most stores these days. Companies tend to make them for kitchen use. You can use a soft rag as well, but do not use paper towels or facial tissue. You do not want to add any more dust to the machine. You can buy PC vacuums for less than twenty bucks and they are very useful for keeping the ports and vents clean on computers and PS3s. LCD cleaning solution is actually a rip off. You can easily make your own with a 50% solution of isopropyl alcohol and water.
- Clean the console face. To clean a PS3, you will need to first turn off and unplug your game. Sorry. Pour or spray a tiny amount of LCD cleaning solution on your microfiber cloth. Use just enough to get it damp. Never, ever spray this directly onto your PS3 because the mist can enter the machine, causing the sort of damage not covered by the warranty. Clean off all the greasy finger smudges but do not attempt to clean the vents, USB or A/V ports.
- Clean the vents and ports. Use the PC vacuum to clean the vents and ports. Do not blow into the ports or use pressurized air. Unlike the PC vacuum, which removes the dust, blowing on it would jam the dust straight up the PS3’s porthole.
- Clean your controllers just like the console face. Dampen a microfiber cloth, wipe and polish away. Sometimes food crust gets into the button slots of your controllers. Use a toothbrush to scrape out the pizza sauce (or whatever substance you encounter) and wipe it down with the microfiber cloth.
Warning: The supposed self-cleaning trick that has been floating around the game forums for years is dangerous for your PS3 and should not be attempted. When all your fans go off at the same time it means your PS3 is overheating, which is bad.
