By keeping some basic guidelines in mind, you can learn how to effectively clean tennis racket grips. No matter if you are a professional tennis player or are simply a weekend warrior, having tennis racket grips that are clean and free from debris will greatly improve your tennis game.
- Remove any athletic or duct tape from the grip of the tennis racket, and discard. Use a grip scraper to carefully remove as much of the sticky adhesive left over from the tape as possible. Grip scrapers can typically be found at most sporting goods stores–though any good tennis pro should also be able to provide you with one.
- Put a small amount of dishwashing soap or laundry detergent into the bottom of a 5 gallon pail, and will with clean, warm water. Place a small brush with short sturdy bristles inside the pail, and allow to soak for a few minutes.
- Use the brush to scrub the exterior of the tennis racket grip. Be sure to be as detailed as possible during cleaning. If the brush is too large to fit in certain cracks or crevices, and cotton swab may be able to do the job.
- After the tennis racket grip has been thoroughly cleaned, rub it dry with a clean, dry towel. Place the tennis racket in a spot that receives direct sunlight, and allow it to rest until completely dry. Once the racket has dried, examine it a final time for any dirt or debris. If dirt particles are still noticeable, start over from step number two.
