How To Clean Vintage Running Shoes
Learning how to clean vintage running shoes is very simple. Before dealing with the cleaning process it is necessary to confirm if there is delicate fiber used in the making of this shoe. Aside from some Suede patches the rest is pure organic fabric.
Materials required to clean vintage running shoes are:
- Soapy Water
- Laundry Brush
- Flannel Rags
- Suede Polish
Steps
- Make a soapy solution and dip the shoes in it for a few hours. This will loosen dirt molecules from shoe fiber and make it easier to clean. Make sure that the detergent used in making the soapy solution is bleach free. A mild detergent works best for this purpose.
- Take out vintage running shoes from the solution and rub gently with a flannel rag. The soles are cleaned with the help of a laundry brush. Rub the shoe in the direction of stitching. This avoids tearing and loose threads. Using a rag to clean vintage running shoe is recommended because it does not harm the suede patches used in the shoe.
- When the dirt is completely removed, wash vintage running shoes with clean water. Keep rinsing till the water runs clear. Turn vintage running shoes upside down for some time to get rid of excess water. Place the shoes in the sun to dry completely. When vintage running shoes have dried, apply suede polish to the patches.
The laces should be removed and washed separately. Replace laces in the shoe before it is kept in the sun to dry. This helps the shoe in maintaining its shape. Stuff the shoe with newspaper when it is slightly dry. This prevents contraction of the suede patches.
