How To Clear A Hard Drive For PS3
If you have a PS3, and are planning on getting rid of it for some reason, you may need to know how to clear a hard drive for PS3. It is a pretty easy process as long as you know how the basics of how to navigate your PS3. Since you may want to get a PS3 again one day, you will also want to back up your hard drive!
What you will need:
- A 4g flash drive
- A TV
- A working controller for the PS3
- The first thing you will want to do to backup your hard drive is start up your PS3 and plug the flash drive into the front USB socket. Be sure it is firmly connected to the PS3 and your system should flash a prompt that it has detected your USB flash drive. If there are issues with detecting your flash drive try taking it out, changing USB flash drives or changing USB sockets on the PS3. It is highly suggested that you do not skip this step because on the off chance you ever get a PS3 again, you would be very happy you had all of the information backed up from this hard drive clearing.
- Once you have successfully hooked in your flash drive, scroll over to settings on the main screen. This is where you control all of the items on your system from memory to backup capabilities, which is what you are interested in. After you have found settings, go scroll down to system settings, backup utility, then backup. Press the confirm button when you are prompted and choose the USB flash drive as backup source and then just wait. The time could differ depending on how full your hard drive is. Now it is time to actually clear your hard drive.
- After the backup has completed, remove the USB drive once it is safe, and let’s begin clearing that PS3 hard drive. Once it has been saved, go back to settings and scroll down to system settings, format utility, format hard disk. Choose yes on the options, then confirm the format and the system will erase all of the memory, totally clearing your PS3’s hard drive!
