How To Coach Batting In Little Leauge Baseball

When someone signs on to teach America's pastime, one of the first steps is learning how to coach batting in Little League Baseball.  For many of the children on the team, this will be their first time learning how to hit a baseball.  Because of this, they need to learn everything starting at the very basics.  Let's talk about some of the steps necessary to coach batting in Little League Baseball.

1. Start with a tee. If some of the players on the Little League team have never hit a baseball before, then starting out with a tee is not a bad idea.  For many of the players on a Little League team, putting a bat on the baseball can be a foreign concept.  They key part to coach batting in Little League Baseball is getting the players to make solid contact with the baseball on a regular basis.
2. Forget about home runs. When you coach batting in Little League Baseball, it is important to make sure that the children on the team are not trying to hit home runs every time. Some kids will be able to hit the ball farther than others and make sure it does not become a home run hitting contest at practice.  By swinging as hard as they can, it reduces the chance for success when hitting.
3. Teach them to wait for their pitch. It is also important to teach the children to have some patience at the plate.  It is not the end of the world to watch a strike go by.  Encourage them to wait for a pitch that they like before swinging the bat.  Swinging at bad pitches is a common mistake of man Little League players.  When learning how to coach batting in Little League baseball, teaching patience at the plate is key to success.
