How To Cope With A Sexless Marriage
Learning how to cope with a sexless marriage can be the difference between staying together and eventually ending up divorced. There are many couples that mutually decide that sex is no longer a necessity for a happy relationship. However, if you make this decision, you will need to find ways to cope with your sexless marriage.
- Keep the relationship as intimate as possible. Increased intimacy expressed in ways other than intercourse can help you cope with a sexless marriage. For example, even if your partner cannot perform sexually, kissing, holding hands and cuddling may still be acceptable forms of intimacy that can help you cope.
- Occupy yourself in other ways. A sexless marriage can be frustrating and difficult, especially if you would like to have sex but your partner does not. When this is the case, you need to find other ways to let out your energy and occupy your time. Spend time with friends. Start a new hobby, or get more involved with your children’s activities.
- Let go of anger and resentment. Negative feelings will not help your relationship work, and they will not help you cope. Instead of feeling negatively towards your partner, try to be understanding, compassionate and sympathetic.
- Communicate openly. Let your partner know how you feel about your sexless marriage. Be sure to listen attentively when your partner responds. Open and honest communication can help you cope and increase the chances that your marriage will survive.
Sexless marriages aren’t as rare as you might think. Many couples mutually agree that for one reason or another, sex is no longer going to be a part of their relationship. If you are having a very difficult time coping, you might consider finding a support group or seeking help from a marriage counselor.
