Figuring out how to cope with sexless relationships isn’t an easy task. You might be the partner who can no longer function sexually, or you might have to accept that your partner can no longer give you sexual satisfaction. Either way, coping techniques should be employed to help you stay happy as a person and happy within your relationship.

  1. Face reality. If you and your partner have not had sex in several months or years or if it happens very infrequently, then you need to face the truth. You are in a sexless relationship. Coming to this realization will help you cope.
  2. Understand that you’re not alone. There are many couples who are in loving, stable relationships who decide that sex is not necessary for happiness. You may be able to find a support group in your area, or you can utilize online forums to rid yourself of that feeling that yours is the only sexless relationship in existence.
  3. Seek help from a counselor. You might decide that going to a counselor alone is enough to cope, but a marriage counselor can also be a big help. The marriage counselor can assist you and your partner with getting your feelings and frustrations out in the open so you can move past them.
  4. Let go of anxiety. Once you face the fact that you’re in a sexless relationship, you no longer have to feel anxious, stressed out or upset about it, and neither does your partner.
  5. Have fun together. Just because you’re not having sex doesn’t mean you and your partner can’t have fun. Find activities that you both enjoy and enjoy them together. This will help bring you closer and increase intimacy without sex.
  6. Focus on loving your partner. Love is an excellent reason to stay in a sexless relationship and to enjoy it. Spend each day focusing on that love, and you may find lack of sex much easier to deal with.

When two people agree that their sexless relationship is working, then there is no need for panic, alarm or forced sexual activity. With effort, communication, support and love, you can learn to cope and be happy in a sexless relationship.
