How To Cure Ringworms

Learning how to cure ringworms is a simple process. Ringworm, also known as “tinea,” is not at all caused by a worm as you might believe. It is actually a fungal skin disease that is contagious.  The skin has rough patches and blisters surrounded by a red ring.

To cure ringworm, you will need:

  • Antifungal Cream or spray
  1. Contact your doctor. Although the characteristics of ringworm are easy to determine it is still good to get a diagnosis from your doctor. The doctor can determine the best treatment for you, but more than likely an over-the-counter treatment will be all that is needed.
  2. Purchase an over-the-counter antifungal product. These come in a wide variety of creams, sprays, powders and lotions. The same products that treat athlete’s foot, also a skin fungus, will work.
  3. Apply the product to the infected area via the manufacturer's directions. Continue treatment for at least a week. Apply the product throughout the day for the entire week for best results.
  4.
  5. Prevent the ringworm from spreading or infecting others, by keeping the infected area covered with clothing or a bandage. Also avoid sharing personal items that touch your skin, such as clothes, towels, and brushes or razors. The fungus can easily pass from you skin to another object and on to someone else.
  6. Contact your doctor again If there is no improvement after a week. More serious treatment is needed. The doctor will likely prescribe antifungal cream and an antibiotic. Complete the full cycle of medication and follow the doctor’s instructions.
