If you experience a severe and sudden sore throat, you might need to know how to cure strep throat. Strep throat is caused by the streptococcus bacteria, and if left untreated, can spread systemically and contribute to cardiac conditions such as rheumatic heart disease. Although more common in children, adults can get strep throat as well, and the condition can even be more difficult to treat as an adult. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to cure strep throat and minimize your risk for complications.

Things you will need to cure strep throat:

  • Medical evaluation
  • Oral antibiotics
  • Plenty of fluids
  • Vitamin C
  • Chicken soup
  1. You need to visit your doctor to determine the etiology of your sore throat. You might receive a throat culture which involves swabbing your throat area with a long swab and then transferring that material to a diagnostic tool to determine if the strep bacteria grows. Your treatment will depend on whether or not you indeed have strep throat. If you do, your doctor will recommend a treatment plan for you to cure strep throat.
  2. Take your antibiotics. If you have strep throat, antibiotics will be started so that it can be cleared. If your sore throat is determined to be viral in nature, antibiotics will be useless. It is important to complete your entire prescription, because if you fail to do so, your infection may return. Antibiotics can cure strep throat fast and and usually with only minimal side effects, if any at all.
  3. Drink plenty of fluids. You will need to drink lots of liquids to help flush out bacteria from you system. Lubricating your throat with mild fluids can also help cure your strep throat by helping to heal irritated and swollen tissues.
  4. Take Vitamin C to enhance your immunity. Antioxidants like Vitamin C rev up your immune system, allowing your body to better fight off infections. Talk to your health care provider about taking Vitamin C to help cure strep throat.
  5. Eat chicken soup. The ingredients in chicken soup have been known to be a potent fighter of infection. Make sure your soup is not too hot, or it can burn the fragile tissue in your throat. The immunity boosting powers of chicken soup may help cure your strep throat, while soothing other symptoms such as nasal congestion and cough.
