When you want to cut a thick head of hair you may be interested in learning how to cut hair with razor. The razor is a tool to thin hair out and create a smooth and sleek look while removing the excess bulk from hair. Using a razor is a skill that requires practice and and a steady hand. A slip up can not only be dangerous but also take a chunk of hair. Thinning hair with a razor adds wispy ends and texture. Although you can razor any length of hair it is recommended for thick, short straight hair.

To cut hair with razor, you will need:

  • A sharp razor
  • A cape (to keep hair of clothing)
  • A brush or comb
  • A Mirror
  1. Choose your hairstyle. When you cut hair with a razor, you may not only be thinning the hair but also committing to a new hairstyle. If you are just testing the waters with cutting hair with a razor, you may want to start with just your bangs to ensure you will like the outcome before continuing with your entire head.
  2. Work slowly. Cutting hair with a razor can be a slow and daunting process. However, the faster you go the more of a chance you have of making a mistake and cutting too much hair. Slow choppy strokes will thin out thick hair and begin texturing the area. This will create a difference in the way the hair feels and lays.
  3. Repeat if needed. Once you are done, run your fingers through your hair and check out your entire head with a mirror. If you like what you see and feel, you are good to go. If your hair still feels too thick in areas, single out the areas. Razor them again taking off only a little hair so that they blend with the surrounding hair.
