How To Cut Toenails

How to cut toenails properly is part of not only having a healthy foot but also for avoiding infections and ingrown toenails that give an unsightly look to your feet. This article explains easy ways to get your toenails looking neat and fresh-looking without the help of a professional.

To cut toenails, you will need:

  • Nail clippers
  • Newspaper
  • Nail filer
  • Towel
  1. Clean toenails. Before cutting your toenails, take a nice shower so you can have freshly clean toenails. The alternative is to use a bucket and fill half of it with warm water before soaking the feet in it for five to ten minutes. If the foot is damp, especially after soaking it in a bucket, use a washcloth to dry the feet to avoid cutting toenails unevenly.
  2. Clip the toenails. Use toenail clippers to cut the toenails straight and evenly rather than in a curve because it can grow within the skin, which causes an ingrown toenail. Start clipping with your big toenail then repeat the same process with the next four toenails. Make sure to use a newspaper or a towel underneath your feet to avoid your toenails landing on your carpet or wood floor.
  3. File the toenails. Take a toenail filer and begin filing the tip of each toenail in a straight line so each of them looks smooth and even looking. After filing the nails, slightly wipe your toes with a cloth to remove the remaining dust particles from your toes.

Tip:

Once its starts growing, cut and file your toenails again to ensure healthy nail growth.
