How to Date a Geek

Learning how to date a geek can be intimidating. Geeks are usually smart and self-confident and play by a whole different set of rules than you are used to. Before asking that sexy geek in your office out, brush up on some geek dating tips for mainstream men.

  1. Get ready to be persistent. Even getting a chance to date a geek could be challenging. At first glance, a geek might think that you have nothing in common. It could take several attempts to convince her that your seemingly mismatched relationship could be great love story material. So let any rejections rolls off your back, and keep letting her know your interested in dating her—in a subtle and non-pushy way, of course.
  2. Think outside the box. When you date a geek, forget your past girlfriends who loved flowers, candies and cards. Your geek will be more impressed with personal gestures, rather than cliched romantics you could pull off in your sleep. Ask yourself what makes this girl so different from the rest. If she prides herself on her massive comic book collection, score her a rare edition. Better yet, make her your own comic book. Take her on a date to an author's reading at your local bookstore. Agree to watch all six "Star Wars" movies with her in one night.
  3. Explore her interests with her. Geeks are going to want a man who can hold a conversation with them, so embrace whatever hobbies make her a geek. You don't need to pretend to love something you hate, but at least give her passions a chance. Maybe you'll find yourself more interested than you expected.
  4. Be yourself. When you date a geek, remember that geeks are geeks because they don't care what other people think about them. They're brave. Don't be the spineless wimp following after your girlfriend's every move. Never change who you are, even if her friends start hounding you because you spend every Sunday tossing a football around with some "dumb jocks." Dating a geek should inspire you to stay true to yourself, no matter what other people think.
