Knowing how to deal with black bowel movement can be a useful piece of information for just about anyone. Though rare, black bowel movements can be alarming and potential significant signs to possible internal problems. Dealing with black bowel movements is really very simple; all you need to do is try a few basic remedies.
- The first thing you should do after experiencing a black bowel movement is to flush your system. To do this, you simply need to consume a large amount of water within a 3-5 hour period. This allows your system to be flushed out and basically reset itself, as long as the issue is not too serious.
- If this does not help, you may try to change eating habits. Eating an abundance of iron-rich food can cause your bowel movement to appear dark green or black. Too much leafy salad, chicken or red meat for example, can cause a black bowel movement. Try this for 2-5 days to see if things change.
- If this does not help, you may have early signs of internal bleeding. This is a very serious condition that can result in death if it persists for too long. Internal bleeding can be caused by the presence of anal fissures, hemorrhoids, or colon cancer, among other ailments. All of these afflictions may be treated specifically, but, once internal bleeding personifies itself, treatments for these afflictions will no longer be of any help, as the damage is already done. At this point, you should immediately consult a trained and licensed physician as you may require antibiotics as well as surgery and a more thorough examination.
Just because you have black stool does not mean that you are bleeding internally. Try the above mentioned remedies first to avoid a potentially unnecessary and invasive examination.
