You may be embarrassed of your YouTube username, so you need to know how to delete a YouTube account.  Ensure you’ve saved the videos you’ve uploaded to this YouTube account on your hard drive. You may want to back up your videos before permanently deleting your YouTube account.

To Delete a YouTube account, you will need:

  • A YouTube account
  • Internet access
  1. Visit the YouTube homepage. Click “Sign In” in the top right corner of the YouTube home page.
  2. Log in with your username and password. This will bring you to your home screen.
  3. Check your profile. Review any personal messages, videos shared, comments and video responses.  Once you delete your profile, these features cannot be recovered.
  4. Point your mouse over your username at the top right corner of your home screen. Click on the arrow to generate a drop down of your YouTube options.
  5. Click “Account.” This will bring you to an overview of your account.
  6. Click “Manage Account” at the bottom of the left navigation menu. The fourth option on this screen is “Delete Account.”
  7. Click “Delete Account.” YouTube may request you to enter your password again. A text box will also generate where YouTube asks that you give a reason for deleting your account.
  8. Click the newly-generated “Delete Account” button. This will permanently delete your YouTube account.
  9. Click “Sign In” at the top of the YouTube screen. Enter your old username and password to ensure your account has been deleted.

Once you delete your YouTube account, you cannot create a new YouTube account using the same username. Without a YouTube account, you may not have access to a number of videos.
