How To Diagnose HPV For Men
If you are concerned about your sexual health, you may be wondering how to diagnose HPV for men. HPV, or human papillomavirus, is a common sexually transmitted virus. Though most men with HPV have no symptoms or health problems, some may develop genital warts, penile cancer, or anal cancer. However, these conditions are very rare.
- Unfortunately, there is no way to diagnose HPV in men, since the virus usually goes away on its own without causing health problems. Although there is no way to diagnose HPV, your doctor can test you for the health problems caused by HPV. Genital warts can usually be seen. If you have a growth in your genital area, including the penis, thighs, testicles, groin, or anus, see your doctor. He or she can determine whether you have genital warts, and remove the warts if necessary.
- Penile and anal cancer typically do not show symptoms until they are very advanced. But if you notice growths on your penis or anal area, or any anal pain, bleeding, itching, or discharge, see your doctor. Remember that these types of cancers are very rare, and that these symptoms are usually a sign of less serious problems.
- Even though there is no way to diagnose HPV in men, you can prevent the disease by remaining in a monogamous relationship with a woman who has been tested negative for HPV. Although condoms prevent most sexually transmitted diseases, they do not prevent HPV, since the virus can live in areas that are not covered by a condom.
