How To Diet For Healthy Hair
If your diet is making your hair dry, learn how to diet for healthy hair. Contrary to popular assumptions, your diet has almost as much affect on your hair as your genetics. While diet can't change the color of your hair, your diet can change the texture and volume of your hair.
-
Increase your vitamin E intake for healthy hair. The recommended daily intake for men of all ages is fifteen mg/day. If you are getting less that fifteen mg, you should take a supplement or eat more vitamin E-rich foods. Increasing your vitamin E intake will help your diet for healthy hair and also help your immune system. The American Dietetic Association recommends getting vitamin E from wheat germ, whole grain products and nuts.
- Eat your omegas for healthy hair. Omega fatty acids are important in a diet for healthy hair. A deficiency in omega fatty acids can give your hair a dull appearance. Make sure to get adequate portions of both omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. These omegas can be found in fish, hemp seed oil and walnuts.
- Eat leafy greens for healthy hair. Including leafy greens such as broccoli and spinach in your healthy hair diet can increase the production of sebum. Sebum is a natural oil secreted by your sebaceous glands to moisturize the scalp. If your hair tends to be dry, it could be because you are not eating enough leafy green veggies. Green vegetables also give you calcium and iron.
- Eat dairy for healthy hair. As part of your healthy hair diet, you should include low-fat dairy. Dairy products such as yogurt and milk provide your hair with the calcium and protein it needs to grow. Try putting nuts or flaxseed on your yogurt for even more hair-healthy nutrients. Frozen yogurt is also considered an acceptable dairy product.
- Don't engage in fad dieting. Another important aspect of dieting for healthy hair is balance. "Yo-yo" dieting and diets that cause you to exclude certain food groups are bad for you and your hair. Eating a balanced diet is the key to dieting for healthy hair.
