Here are some tips for how to diet for hypoglycemia. A healthy diet for hypoglycemia can help a person with hypoglycemia control their blood sugar. People with hypoglycemia have abnormally low blood sugar levels. When people have hypoglycemia, their pancreas produces to much insulin, which causes their blood sugar to drop. Making some of these changes in their diet has helped many people control their hypoglycemia.

  1. Eat many small meals throughout the day. Eating smaller meals throughout the day can help stabilize blood sugar. Many people who are on a hypoglycemia diet benefit from eating six small meals a day instead of eating three larger meals a day. It is important for a person with hyperglycemia not to over eat; they just need to eat more often.
  2. Start eliminating unhealthy items from your life. These items include tobacco and alcohol. Food and drinks that contain caffeine should also be eliminated from a hypoglycemia diet. Foods that contain a large amount of sugar or flour should eliminated or at least reduced from a hypoglycemia diet. Many people with hypoglycemia find that gradually reducing these items from their diet is better than eliminating them all at once. People with hypoglycemia should talk to their doctors to see which method would be best for them.
  3. Always keep snacks available. It is essentials for a person with hypoglycemia to have snacks available incase they need them to stabilize their blood sugar. Besides having snacks at the home or office people with hypoglycemia also need to keep snacks in their cars incase they need them while they are traveling. Always having snacks on hand can keep a hypoglycemic from having their blood sugar level drop to dangerously low levels.
  4. Limit your fruit consumption. While fruits are generally considered healthy, they are not healthy in a hypoglycemia diet. Many people with hypoglycemia can not tolerate any fruits. Some people with hypoglycemia can have a very limited amount of fruits. Dried fruits should be completely eliminated from the hypoglycemia diet.
  5. Pay attention to natural foods. Just because a food is natural does not mean that it is good for the hypoglycemia diet. This is especially true in the case if natural juices. These juices often contain entirely too much sugar to be considered healthy for a hypoglycemia diet. Many people don't realize that even natural foods contain too much sugar to be considered healthy for a hypoglycemia diet.
