How To Disinfect Computer Keyboard
Need to know how to disinfect a computer keyboard? Computers are used almost every day by millions of people. Did you know that the computer is actually the second most common place for germs to be present in a person's household or office? Knowing how to properly disinfect a computer keyboard can help eliminate some of those germs and prevent the spread of illnesses.
To disinfect a computer keyboard, you will need:
- Disinfectant wipes
- A can of compressed air
- Hand sanitizer
- Use disinfectant wipes. These wipes kill 99.9% of the germs and viruses that they come in contact with. Wiping down the surface of the keyboard as little as once a week can reduce the number of germs that are present on the surface of the keyboard. If using a wipe, make sure that the wipes that are used aren't soaking wet, as the wetter the wipe the more damage could be caused to the keyboard. Some companies make disinfectant wipes especially for electronic devices.
- Purchase a keyboard that comes with a UV light. One of the newest ways to disinfect the computer keyboard is with a UV light. The UV light will instantly kill the germs off the surface of the keyboard. A UV light can be bought, plugged in and placed above the keyboard. However, some computers are building UV lights into the keyboard tray.
- Use compressed air. Compressed air can be blown between the keys to get some of the dirt and debris that is stuck between them. Although these aren't germs, they do trap bacteria. By blowing away the dirt that can become trapped in between the keys, you will lessen the amount of germs that are present.
- Proper hand sanitation. Practicing proper hand sanitization before using the keyboard will prevent germs from even making it to the keyboard. Using a hand sanitizer both before and after use of the keyboard will eliminate any germs that might have traveled on the hands. Making sure coughs and sneezes are properly covered will reduce the number of germs that are present on the keyboard.
