How To Dispose Of A Fiberglass Boat
Knowing how to dispose of a fiberglass boat can be tricky. You can't just leave it for the garbage truck to pick it up. There are few things more unattractive than the rotting corpse of a once proud sea vessel.
- Drop it off at a landfill. Read your local landfill's regulations, but often times you can leave you boat for a fee. Check for any weight restrictions and whether or not you have to have removed certain aspects of the boat's interior before you drop it off. You must also be able to load and unload the boat yourself. In nearly every case, the manager of the landfill will not help you. This is for his own liability. Most places will take your trailer too. In that case you must remove the tires yourself when you get there.
- Donate it. Charities that accept cars also frequently accept boats. This is in your favor because it means that you get a tax break when you donate it. Call up your favorite charity to see if they take boats. Most will come pick it up for you. You will not need to strip the stuff from the inside if you take this option.
- Recycle it. Yes, fiberglass can be recycled. This option, however good for the environment, comes with a rather hefty fee in most areas. In addition, there are not many places around that will recycle boats. This option will take some calling around. You will have to be able to drop this off yourself. They will not pick it up.
