How To Distress Your Guitar Like A Fender Guitar

As a guitar player, you may want to learn how to distress your guitar like a Fender guitar.  A distressed guitar has a really cool look that can make you look like a seasoned pro even if you have little experience playing guitar. The following guide will help you learn how to distress your guitar like a Fender guitar.

To distress your guitar like a Fender guitar, you will need:

  • Your guitar
  • Fine grit sandpaper
  • A source of direct sunlight
  • A large freezer
  1. One of the easiest and safest ways to distress your guitar like a Fender guitar is to simply mimic the patterns of wear and tear that you usually see on a Fender guitar.  This can be achieved rather easily through the use of a fine grit sandpaper. Simply use the sandpaper to wear down the varnish and paint on your guitar. Make sure to choose areas that would naturally receive a lot of wear and tear, such as the fret board and the area your fingers hit while strumming.
  2. If you're looking for an even more significantly distressed look, then you can achieve this by leaving your guitar in the sun until it becomes very hot.  This will weaken the paint and varnish.
  3. Next, place your guitar immediately into a very cold freezer. Your home freezer will probably not be big enough, but a deep freezer will most likely do the trick. Heating your guitar and then cooling it suddenly will cause the paint to weaken, crack and chip. It's like aging your guitar ten or twenty years in just a few moments. Just make sure you really like the look of a distressed Fender guitar before distressing it. It's very difficult to return the guitar to its original glory.
