If you are looking to loose some weight, you may be interested in learning how to do the Atkins Diet. Why? The Atkins Diet is one of the most popular diet plans. The reason why is that it is easy to follow and people actually can loose weight while on it. Plus, if they continue to follow the plan throughout their life, they can keep the pounds off permanently. On the Atkins Diet one is restricted from eating carbohydrates and thus the body is able to begin burning fat. Here are the steps which are often referred to phases that one should take when following the Atkins Diet.

  1. Phase One: The Induction Phase:  When one is starting the Atkins Diet the first stage is not only the stepping stone, but the most vital step of the diet. It allows the body to get used to eating fewer carbohydrates. During this fourteen day phase one is only allowed to eat a mere twenty grams of carbohydrates a day. One can see a dramatic amount of weight loss during this phase. Some suggestions on food choices during this phase can include: all fish choices, all poultry choices, eggs, vegetables, olive oil, and cheeses.
  2. Phase Two:  The Ongoing Weight Loss Phase:  One can begin adding a bit more carbohydrates to their daily meals during this phase. Carbohydrates that are combined with combined with fiber are encouraged. During the first week of this phase, you are allowed 25 grams of carbohydrate. The second week you are allowed 30 grams, as long as you continue to loose weight. Once you begin to stop loosing weight, you may subtract another five grams of carbohydrates from your daily intake. Any foods from the phase one induction phase as well as blueberries, strawberries, walnuts, cashews, cottage cheese,  and convenience bars such as the name brand Atkins bars are allowed.
  3. Phase Three: Pre-Maintenance Phase:This is the phase that allows you to continue to gradually loose weight, while slowly adding more carbohydrates to your daily intake. As long as you are loosing weight, you can slowly add another ten grams of carbohydrates to your daily intake, if you choose.
  4. Phase Four:  Maintenance Phase:  This phase will hopefully last for life. It is designed to help you maintain your target weight. It is also designed in hopes that you will continue to eat the healthy low carbohydrates you have been enjoying throughout the diet for the rest of your life.
