Learning how to do BMX tricks is the main reason many bikers are attracted to the sport. Starting out there are few measures every biker should take before attempting new BMX bike tricks. Additionally, there are a few tricks every BMX rider should learn before progressing towards mastering more advanced tricks. Always remember when learning how to do BMX tricks always place safety as the top priority. Performing BMX bike tricks can become pretty dangerous so always practice in a spacious area. Lay safety mats in front of ramps to provide protection in the event of taking a tumble. Always wear protective gear like helmets, body armor, elbow pads, protective bmx bike gloves, knee pads and wrist guards when attempting BMX tricks.

  1. Learn the Bike. Before attempting any BMX bike trick, get a good feel for your bike. If you are performing tricks on a new bike, allow a few weeks to pass to get a good feel for the bike and break it in before moving on to BMX tricks. Never select a new bike based on looks alone as many bikes function differently.
  2. Start with Beginner BMX Bike Tricks. BMX bike tricks fit into three categories, beginner level, intermediate level and advanced level. Beginner level tricks are the easiest and often safest to learn first. Additionally, bikers have no choice but to learn beginner level tricks first as many intermediate level and advanced tricks are combinations of beginner BMX tricks. Bunny hops, wheelies, manuals, barspins and endos are all BMX tricks every new BMX rider should learn.
  3. Pay attention to Technique. Whether performing a spinning trick or a trick which requires riding down ramps, always follow the direction of the trick. If a BMX trick requires performing a back flip, lean backwards to increase rotation. If a trick requires curving in a certain direction, lean into the direction of the curve to master the trick. However, mind your form as well. Leaning too far back or curving too much can cause you to lose balance and fail at landing BMX tricks successfully. Keep practicing tricks one by one until you find a happy medium between your own form and technique.
