With regular usage and driving of your car, overtime the engine can run poorly and end up loosing power or burning a lot of oil. Doing a compression test on you Honda is the best thing to do when having engine problems as this can diagnose the problem. Running a compression test is quite simple, just follow the steps below.
To do a compression test on a Honda you need:
- compression tester
- Warm up your engine. In order to do a compression test on a Honda engine make sure that the engine is warmed up first. This will allow you to get accurate test results.
- Remove the engine spark plugs. Once you turn the engine off make sure to take out all of the spark plugs and leave the holes open. To avoid the possibility of getting an electrical shock be sure to disable the ignition system by disconnecting the coil plug from the ignition coil.
- Screw the compression tester into one cylinder. Once you place the tester into one of the spark plug holes, crank the engine on your Honda. This will allow compression to build in that cylinder. Repeat this process for all of the remaining cylinders, but be sure to press the reset button on the tester first.
- Do an evaluation of your test results. Record the PSI reading for each of the cylinders. Compare your recorded results to the manufacturer numbers based upon the model and year of your Honda. Determine how accurate the test results are and if there is something wrong with your engine. Look in your Honda's manual or online to determine what the test results mean. If the compression test reading is low add a little oil and repeat the test.
