By keeping some basic guidelines in mind, you can learn how to do cross-country skiing classical techniques. Learning how to perform these classical techniques will not only improve your skiing ability, but will also make the sport more fun. Be sure to contact a great instructor in order to get lessons and tips to improve your performance.

  1. Take lessons. This is probably the most important thing you can do to learn some classical techniques for cross-country skiing. A great instructor can not only tell you what you are doing incorrectly, but can also give you tips that can make the sport more enjoyable. Talk with friends, family members and skiing enthusiasts about your desire to find an instructor. More than likely, one of these people will be able to make a recommendation.
  2. Learn how to stop. This is another important step when learning how to do classical cross-country skiing. When stopping, bring the tips of your skis together, and put weight on the inside of your feet. This will force your skis to come to a stop. Be sure to practice this technique on small hills in order to get comfortable with the maneuver.
  3. Learn how to climb. Climbing hills is essential when doing classical cross-country skiing. To climb a hill in cross-country skis, point your toes out so your feet form a "V". Carefully begin walking up the hill. Doing this will prevent your skis from going backwards, and will allow you to easily climb any hill.
  4. Practice! As they say, practice makes perfect, and this is the only way to really become a great classical cross-country skier.
