If you are interested in working with certain programs and are in need of your computer’s IP address, then you may be asking yourself “How do I find my IP address?” This is a very simple process that can be completed in many different ways, today you will be using the way that will not require any kind of internet connection, but simply a basic knowledge of computers.

What you will need to find your IP address:

  • Access to computer where IP address knowledge is required
  1. To get your IP address start by opening command prompt on your computer. If you have Windows Vista, then simply type “cmd” into the search bar without the quotations and you should see a program with the same title. If you have XP, then click run and search for “cmd.” Click the program you have located and you should open the command prompt window where you will acquire the correct Ip address of your computer.
  2. Type “ipconfig” into the command prompt window to get all of the IP address information. Be sure to do this without the quotations to properly get all of the IP address information that you will need. You should know see a whole line of code that will show you your IP address if you know what you are looking for.
  3. Scroll down the list of code until you see a line that says “IP address.” If you have Vista, then you will be looking for a line entitled IPv4 address. This is the same thing as your IP address number and now you should just follow the line until you see an IP address in this format XXX.XXX.X.XXX.
