How Do I Fix My CD Hardrive?
If you computer has stopped reading cds you will need to know how to fix your cd hard drive. There are many way a cd drive can get dirty, broken, or temporarily unusable. Thankfully there are a few easy fixes for most cd hard drive problems. Some of the fixes may require buying things, or a few extra moments of your time. Learning how to fix this problem on your own will save you time and money in the long run. Here are a few things to try in case your computer no longer reads the CDs or DVDs put into it.
- Try cleaning the cd or media that you want to play. Make sure you used a cd approved cleaner, such as iKlear. The cd cleaner may not contain an alcohol or other toxic chemicals. Apply just a bit of cd cleaner to a soft cloth like a chamois, then rub the CD gently, dry it, then see if it will play.
- The cd drive lens may be dirty. This is often the problem with cd hard drives that are placed in dirty areas or left undusted for awhile. To clean the cd lens it is best to get an approved cd drive cleaner. Memorex makes a cd drive cleaner, it looks just like a cd and when you play it like a cd it spins and cleans the lens. If you are completely unable to get a device like this, then you may either use a can of air or cloth to clean the lens. Doing this may require some disassembly of the computer and is not recommended.
