Need to know how to do longboard tricks? Doing tricks on a longboard is a great way to entertain family and friends, and eventually allows you to enter competitions. Becoming comfortable with your longboard is one thing, but learning to do tricks takes longboarding to a whole new level. When learning to do tricks, the key is not to become frustrated with yourself, but to be patient. Allow yourself time to get your technique together so you are always in control of the board. Here a few tips to help you get started doing longboard tricks.

  1. Perfect your balance. To do any trick you have to be able to maintain your balance on your longboard. The best way to do this is to push off on your longboard and ride with both feet on your board to see how far you can roll and ride without falling off. Keep practicing this to build up your balance until you are no longer falling off of your longboard.
  2. Practice jumping and landing on your longboard. Knowing how to jump and land on your board is important to doing any longboard trick. At a moving speed, practice jumping and landing on your board while maintaining your balance at all times. Increase your speed just a little bit more each time the better you get at jumping and landing on your longboard. When you jump, staying over the board will help you with your landing.
  3. Longboard in different positions. Bend your knees as you ride and then increase your speed. Practice doing turns. As you ride, slant your body and your feet to one side of the board, leaning as you try to turn or curve your board. Learn how to do different types of stops on your longboard. Trying different positions will help prepare you to do longboard tricks.
  4. Learn the ollie. The ollie is the basis for any more complex longboarding trick. The ollie involves a leap into the air while flipping the longboard from the back and jumping up while you control the front of the board with your other foot. You want to learn everything about getting that board off of the ground. Once you learn how to ollie, build longboard tricks from there.
