When you know how to do skateboarding tricks, you can impress your friends with your talent. Some skateboarding tricks require a great deal of skill, which you will only acquire by practicing for many hours. Make sure you have the proper safety equipment when you try difficult skateboarding tricks. A helmet, gloves, arm and knee pads are essential gear for top-level riders.

  1. Try some easy skateboarding tricks. Before you attempt tricks on a ramp or other obstacle, master the easier tricks. Even jumping off the ground onto the board requires a certain level of talent. Practice mounting and dismounting the board, and then move on to a higher-level trick.
  2. Watch how other skaters do skateboarding tricks. If you are able, go to a skate park and check out the other skaters. Ask for advice on how to do tricks such as an Ollie, which is when both you and the board go airborne at the same time. Watch some other skate park aerial tricks, and add some easy ones to your repertoire.
  3. Try some simple vert tricks. Vertical tricks are both fun to perform, and fun to watch. Skate up a ramp at the skate park, and try to maintain your balance. Do not go to the top lip of the ramp until you are completely comfortable on the board. The fall will be unpleasant, at best.
  4. Once you are more comfortable on the board, try some harder tricks. To do skateboarding tricks that carry a high degree of difficulty, you must be prepared to crash land many times. Top level skaters often break bones when they try hard tricks, so do not get in over your head when you are still a novice. Try aerial tricks such as catching big air on the ramp, where you fly high over the lip. Make sure you have the proper safety equipment on, since you will certainly experience some crash landings.
