How to do a testicular cancer self check is an important question, especially for males between the ages of 15 and 34. This is the most common age at which testicular cancer can be found in males. Testicular cancer is very treatable, even after it has spread past the testicles. There are many treatments and combinations of treatments that can be used to treat this, but the best way to treat this form of cancer is by finding it early. This can be done using some simple techniques and should be done about once a month. Here is how to perform a testicular cancer self check.

  1. Start by holding the scrotum in the palm of your hand. Hold the scrotum gently and feel for any abnormalities such as lumps. It is normal for one testicle to hang lower than the other.
  2. Place the finger and thumb against the sides of the testicle gently and palpate or feel the testicle. Do this for both testicles feeling for any lumps or abnormalities. The testes should feel smooth and oval in shape.
  3. Testicular cancer does not always cause pain in the early stages so do this check once a month and see your doctor if you feel any abnormalities or lumps regardless of pain.
  4. You many also notice some other symptoms of testicular cancer other than a lump or abnormality. Some symptoms include pain in the abdomen or groin lasting more than two weeks. A feeling of heaviness in the scrotum or a collection of fluid in the scrotum could also be a symptom. Unexplained fatigue or a general feeling of not being well should also be noted.

Testicular cancer can occur at any age so it is a good idea to start checking yourself regularly for these signs and symptoms. Performing regular self checks is one of the best ways of catching this cancer early and getting the required treatments.
