How Do You Erase Internet Surfing History On Your Computer?

You may be wondering how do you erase Internet surfing history on your computer to keep your private information and personal website browsing secure.  It removes traces of your Internet activity and prevents people from knowing what websites you have visited, when, and what you were looking for. It removes text entered into search engines while searching for specific information and the results. It also removes stored websites that have been directly typed into the url box if the address was already known. Regardless of whether you use Internet Explorer or Firefox, erasing Internet surfing history easy and quick to accomplish.

Clearing history for Internet Explorer versions 4.0, 4.01, 5, 5.5, 6.0, according to Microsoft:

  1. Navigate to your control panel by using your Start menu.
  2. Double click "Internet Options".
  3. Select the tab titled "General" and click "Clear History".
  4. Click "Yes" when prompted, then "OK" to close the dialog box and erase your Internet history.

Clearing history on Firefox, according to Mozilla:

  1. Double click your Firefox icon to bring up a Firefox browser.
  2. Click "Tools", located at the top of the browser to bring up the menu.
  3. Select "Clear Recent History".
  4. Choose how much of the history you want to delete by selecting 1, 2, 4, or the last 24 hours. You can also click "Everything" to erase your entire history.  1, 2, 4 hours, all day
  5. Click the option "Clear Now". It may take a few seconds to erase the history, depending on the last time you cleared it.

Note: If using Firefox 3.5, you are able to erase the history by choosing specifically what you want to erase by clicking the button next to "Details". The options include: Browsing & Download History, Form & Search History, Cookies, Cache, Active Logins, and Site Preferences.
