How Do You Hook Up An iPod To A Stereo?

You've just recently purchased and iPod and want to know how to hook up an iPod to a  stereo. You can take full advantage of an iPod by hooking it up to a home stereo and enjoying all of your favorite song  through your stereo speakers. This can save you money without you having to purchase and iPod dock. If you have a home stereo you can easily connect your iPod to your stereo within only a few minutes.

To hook an iPod to a stereo receiver, you need:

  • iPod
  • RCA connector cable
  • home stereo
  1. Purchase the correct audio cable. You need an audio cable that has a headphone connector on one end and an RCA connector on the other. This will allow you hook up an iPod to a home stereo. The RCA connector end will be a "Y" cable an have a red and a white connector.
  2. Connect the cable to your receiver.  On the back of your receiver locate either a CD auxiliary or an audio input port. Connect the end with the RCA connector cable to your receiver.
  3. Connect the other end of the cable to your iPod. The end of the plug with the headphone jack should be connected into the iPod port. No other connection will need to be made to you iPod.
  4. Make sure your iPod is connected properly. Turn on your home stereo and iPod. Make sure to select the correct "Input" mode on your stereo that corresponds with the RCA connectors. Once you play a song on your iPod if it is hooked up right it will play the song through your stereo speakers.
