- Shot accuracy is determined by angles. There is a reason why a high-arcing shot is desired in basketball. The ball needs to have an optimum angle to go into the basket. Therefore, you can have a generally better chance at the ball going in if you have a high arc, or a better angle.
- A higher arc gives the ball a softer shot as well. Of course a higher arc gives the ball a better chance to go in. Also, a higher arc improves shot accuracy by making the shot "softer." That is, a ball that is shot at a flatter angle, that has less of an arc, is more likely to bounce off the rim. A shot that has a higher arc is said to be soft as it won't bounce completely off the rim as easily.
