It may be that ever since you were young, your parents insisted on a healthy diet; now you're wondering just how a healthy diet affects you? You're not alone, although you may be in a smaller group. The larger group seeking to find out how a healthy diet affects you are those who eat poorly and are wanting to make a change for the better. The good news is that one way a healthy diet affects you is huge, in that if you begin eating a healthy diet today, it affects you today, tomorrow and on into the future!
The commonly known factors that are that eating a healthy diet makes you feel better, look healthier, sleep better and will help you maintain your normal healthy weight. There are, however, additional factors that should be considered. The Department of Nutrition at Harvard University School of Public Health developed a Healthy Eating Pyramid to help guide people into establishing healthy eating habits. In addition to detailing the importance of each food group, it also recommends routine exercise as part of a healthy diet.
For growing children and teens, a healthy diet ensures proper growth of body cells, internal organs, muscles, and tissues, supplying the nutrition to achieve normal growth and development. Although adult bodies have finished growing, they still need a healthy diet to sustain the body's cells, tissues, and organs such as the heart, liver, and kidneys.
A healthy diet is imperative in reducing the chances of health-related issues that often result from eating a poor diet. Some of these health conditions include heart disease, high blood pressure, artherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), kidney disease, diabetes and obesity, which can lead to numerous diseases and disorders.
