Never try to head out to the slopes until you know how to dress for skiing. Temperatures when skiing can drop very low but just wearing a heavy coat is not enough. When you learn how to dress for skiing you will stay warmer, drier and happier.

  • tight fitting polyester shirt and pants
  • warm well fitting shirt
  • ski jacket and pants
  • mittens or gloves
  • hat or helmet
  • ski goggle with UV protection
  1. Pick out the right base layer The first thing you want to put on when learning how to dress for skiing is a base layer. The base layer needs to consist of both pants and a shirt. This thin layer, made of a breathable material, will stay dry next to your body. Never choose cotton for this layer, as it will only hold the moisture close to your skin. A good material for a base layer is a thin polyester.
  2. Put on a well fitting shirt The next layer should consist of a shirt. A sweatshirt, turtle neck or flannel all work equally as well. The most important factor about this layer is that it should be comfortable. If it is too tight or too loose it may bother you while your skiing.
  3. Put on a ski coat and ski pants When you are learning how to dress for skiing you should never overlook the top layer. This is the layer that will keep you both warm and dry. If you need to purchase a ski jacket and pants opt for one of high quality fabric and craftsmanship. Staying comfortable on the slopes is priceless.
  4. Put on the accessories There are a few accessories that you need to have when you dress for skiing. A hat or helmet will help keep the heat contained in your body. Mittens or gloves are must haves to keep your fingers warm in the cold temperatures. The last thing you will need to put on is a pair of goggles. These goggles will protect your eyes and can offer protection against the sun’s UV rays.

If you follow these steps you will be ready for a day out on the mountain. Even on the coldest winter days a skier can stay warm by knowing how to dress for skiing. Dressing for comfort and warmth is important in skiing , and anytime you are participating in a cold weather sport.
