If you're an eyeglass wearer or are just starting to notice changes in your vision, curiosity about how to enhance eyesight is natural. Chances are that you've probably already asked around and have either read or been told about the latest, greatest and varied means that are out there to make your vision better. The question is, what should you believe and what should you take with a grain of salt. Before taking drastic measures in a quest for improved eyesight, there are several important and basic steps to consider.

  1. Have an eye exam. This is the absolute first step when determining the best way to enhance your eyesight even if you wear glasses. An eye doctor can help you to determine if there are underlying causes for poor vision such as Diabetes or if your vision can be improved by a simple change in prescription.
  2. Get glasses. For someone who has never worn glasses in the past, being told that you'll need to wear them can be a difficult pill to swallow. Eyeglasses have come a long way over the years and there are many offerings available to suit just about every facial feature and personal style.
  3. Try contact lenses if glasses aren't your thing. Face it, glasses aren't for everyone and that's the beauty of contact lenses. Contacts enhance eyesight without being visibly noticeable to others. Contact lenses offer comfort and convenience, if you can get past the initial discomfort involved with inserting the contact lens.
  4. Consider surgery. Even people who don't mind wearing contact lenses or glasses consider corrective eye surgery as an important option to consider in the quest for improving eyesight. When considering surgery, the most important thing is to do your research and find an experienced surgeon that makes you feel comfortable and discusses all your options and the pros and cons involved in having corrective surgery.

Tips and warnings:

  • A change in vision can be the side effect of certain diseases. Successful treatment and maintenance of these conditions can enhance your eyesight without surgery or corrective eyewear.
  • Be adventurous when buying contacts and change your eye color. Most contacts come in a variety of eye altering colors.
  • Always weigh the your risk to benefit ratio when considering eye surgery. No surgery can claim a 100% success rate.
  • Ask about the long term benefits of techniques that claim to improve your vision without surgery or eyeglasses. These results may only be temporary.
