How To Exercise Back Pain

It is usually a good idea to learn how to exercise back pain if that is what you suffer from. Back pain exercises tend to limber up the muscles in the back, reduce pain and prevent further injury. When exercising for back pain, you need to go easy on yourself. If you experience a lot of pain, you may want to stop the exercise or slow it down. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure how to exercise for back pain properly. The following exercises should help you relieve your back pain. 

  1. Pelvic tilt. Lie down on your back with your feet on the floor. Contract your abdomen so that you are pushing your lower back into the floor. Keep pushing for five seconds, then relax. Repeat this back pain exercise ten times per set and three times per day. 
  2. Knee hug. Do the pelvic tilt exercise. At the same time that you contract the abdomen, pull your knees to your chest. Hold your knees to your chest for five seconds like you are hugging them, then return to the original position. Repeat this back pain exercise ten or twenty times per set and three times per day. 
  3. Prone hip extension. Lie on your belly. Contract your pelvic muscles while lifting one leg at least four inches and no more than two feet. Hold your leg up for five seconds, then relax. Repeat with the other leg. Repeat this back pain exercise ten times per set and three times per day. 
  4. Camel stretch. Get on your hands and knees. Stretch your head and your butt upward while letting your abdomen be pulled toward the floor. Hold this pose for ten seconds without obstructing your breathing. It helps if you breathe smoothly through the nose while holding this pose. Release and relax. Repeat this exercise for back pain ten times per set and three times per day. 
  5. Lower trunk rotation. Lie down on your back so that your feet are flat on the floor. Do the pelvic tilt exercise. At the same time, tilt your legs as much as you can to one side. Then tilt your legs to the other side. Repeat this back pain exercise ten or twenty times and three times per day.
