- Slow down your day. Let's look at your day first, since that comes before sleep. You need to slow it down. If you are constantly on the go and always in a state of rush, your body and mind have trouble letting this go, even during your sleep. Instead, slow down a bit. This doesn't mean laying around all day or being a bump on a log. Just take a break here or there. If you have a high stress or high energy job, relax for a couple of minutes. If you exercise your heart rate and body temperature increases. This increase actually gives your body more energy, not less. Exercise is a good thing, but make sure you not doing it right before you go to sleep.
- Do not eat heavy meals 3 hours before bed. Basically, it's the same deal as exercise. Your body temperature increases when you eat, causing you to have more trouble falling asleep. Plan to eat a balanced and healthy meal 3 hours before your bedtime.
- Do something boring instead. Watching your favorite action movie, or reading a really interesting book will keep you up with your mind wondering. Instead, do something boring. Fold some clothes or take a warm bath and relax.
- Take a look at the environment. To fall asleep and to fall asleep fast, you really need to have an appropriate environment. Try limiting sounds around you. If you live on a busy street, you can try a noise eliminator. Also, take a look at your mattress. Be sure you have a good quality mattress. Also, make sure your room is dark enough. If, for some reason, you can't change the lighting- don't be afraid to get an eye mask.
