How far apart are the bases in baseball? The distance between bases in the game of baseball differ depending on which age range is playing the game.
Specifically, it mainly differs between children twelve years old and younger and kids thirteen years old and older. Kids playing baseball in the age range of twelve years old and younger are playing Little League. These are the same age kids playing in the Little World World Series shown on ESPN every summer.
Starting from tee-ball all the way to what is termed the "majors" in Little League, the bases are 60 feet apart. Home plate and first base are 60 feet apart. First and second base are 60 feet apart. Second and third base are 60 feet apart. And finally, third base and home plate are 60 feet apart. As long as a base runner is going in the right direction around the bases without skipping any, the bases will always be 60 feet apart. This applies to Little League.
From the years thirteen and up, the bases are 90 feet apart. Thirteen year-olds enter what is termed Junior Ball, and then after that they continue onto Senior Ball. From there the players enter high school. After graduating it's on to college for some, others go on to minor league. After the minor leagues is the majors, or Major League Baseball.
From thirteen years, Junior ball, all the way to the MLB, the bases are 90 feet apart. Home plate and first base are 90 feet apart. First base and second base are 90 feet apart. Second base and third base are 90 feet apart. Third base and home plate are 90 feet apart. Forming a diamond, running from any base to any base in the correct order, counter clockwise, will result in running a total of 90 feet.
