Learning how to fight martial arts is quite a broad subject. This can be taken a number of ways, such as to different sports-related martial arts to those that are more traditional. Take the following considerations into account to learn how to fight martial arts.

  1. You will need to choose a martial art, if you haven't already. This is quite involved in itself, as there are an abundant number of martial arts. You may be looking for something more direct and able to compete in, such as Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, Kickboxing, or Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Perhaps a more traditional martial art is more appropriate, such as a type of kung-fu, which is typically less focused on competition.
  2. Join a martial arts school. Take some time to join a martial arts school, which will greatly help your progress in your chosen martial art. Take care to choose a good school that offers a good instructor and class size at a reasonable price.
  3. Examine ways to compete if you desire. Some who study martial arts have a strong desire to compete, to truly "fight martial arts." First speak to your instructor; there may be some opportunities in local tournaments in which you or your school may compete. Of course some martial arts will have more opportunities than others, which is something to consider if this is important to you.
  4. Spar and practice your martial art. For many, fighting martial arts doesn't need to be anything more than some sparring and bag work. Your school may utilize some level of contact in sparring, which allows you to fight martial arts. You can always work on a heavy bag to apply what you have learned, and also get a great workout.
