Do you want to learn how to figure golf handicap? The guidelines below will go over how to calculate your golf handicap using your last 5 rounds of golf. The final calculation that you get is only an estimate. Official golf handicaps can only be given out by select United States Golf Association clubs.

  1. Scores. You will need to take your scores from your last 5 rounds of golf. The rounds you are using must have been played on a regulation length 18 hole golf course. Do not use any rounds that were played on 9 hole courses when calculating your golf handicap.
  2. Rating and Slope. To figure out your golf handicap, you will need to obtain the course rating and slope rating for each course you played on. These ratings should be listed on the scorecard that was provided to you by the golf course. If not, you can call the golf course directly to obtain the course and slope ratings.
  3. Math. In order to calculate your golf handicap, you will need to subtract the course rating from the score that you achieved on that specific course. You will then need to multiply that number by 113 for each course. Divide the number that you get by the slope rating of that course. The resulting number is known as the differential. The final step in calculating your golf handicap is to take your lowest differential and multiply it by 0.96. To get your final golf handicap figure, you will need to drop any decimals after the tenth.
