How To Figure Square Footage
Looking for information on how to figure square footage? You may be looking to figure out square footage if you are purchasing new carpeting for a room in your house or if you are trying to determine how large of an air conditioner you need. Figuring out square footage only takes a few minutes of your time, but depending on the size of your room, you may need someone to assist you.
To figure out square footage, you will need:
- A tape measure
- A calculator
- Measure the Length of the Room. Use your tape measure to measure the length of the room you need to calculate the square footage for. This is where you may need someone else to take the tape measure and walk across the room with it so you can get an accurate measurement.
- Measure the Width of the Room. Once you have obtained your length measurements, go ahead and measure the width of your room. You may want to write the measurements down so you don't forget them.
- Calculate the Square Footage. Square footage can be calculated by multiplying the length measurement by the width measurement. If you are looking to obtain the square footage for multiple rooms or your entire house, you will need to measure each individual room, calculate the square footage for each individual room, and add all of the individual square footages up together.
Tip: Many people are under the assumption that the height of the room plays a factor in the square footage of the room, but that is not true.
