How To Find Followers On Twitter

So you want to know how to find followers on Twitter? There are many different ways, some better than others. But it's always best not to come off as "spammy" when finding followers. Avoid anything automated as this often is associated with spam techniques that companies, not people, use.

  1. Have a personal brand. As a Twitter persona, it is important to have your own personal brand. This basically means having a concept of who you are in a succinct, 140 character or less description, that will let others know what you're about in less than five seconds. You must be able to grab or capture someone's attention in a short amount of time and be able to tell others who you are. Customizing your Twitter page and background will help establish yourself as someone important that people should follow.
  2. Search . The best non-spam way to find followers is to search! Once you login to Twitter, search the toolbar for keywords that interest you. Once you find people that look interest on a topic that interests you, follow them! It helps if your tweets, or personal brand, are also related to the subject you're searching for. This will make the follower more likely to follow you back.
  3. Hashtags. No, this isn't the latest drug. A hashtag is a Twitter search and grouping function that helps Twitter users follow specific topics, subjects, or events that they're interested in. Hashtags are categorized with the pound symbol (#) followed by the word or acronym that people use to categorize. Essentially, hashtags are like a virtual filing system. If you use a Twitter application, such as Tweetdeck, you can follow hashtags and find people that you might be interested in following.

With these three basic steps, you can start gaining new followers by searching keywords and hashtags. Make sure your Tweets give something of value and people you follow will be more likely to follow you back.
