Knowing how to find running trails is an important part of every runner's life. Finding a good running trail makes running in the outdoors more enjoyable. Follow these few tips to find the perfect running trail for your next running adventure.

  1. Ask around. If you are new to the area, ask your neighbors or fellow runners where the good running trails are located. Most likely, that runner you see running past your front window is familiar with some sort of running trail in the area. Word of mouth is sometimes the best way to find the most coveted running trail in your area.
  2. Search online. Go online and do a search of running trails within your city. You are likely to find exactly what you're looking for. You may even find some good reviews from fellow runners that have run the trails. You can most likely find a map of the running trail that you can print out and take with you.
  3. Do your own search. Take a stroll through your neighborhood and you are likely to find a running trail you didn't even know existed. If you live in a more secluded area, take a drive around your town and you are likely to find a running trail. Many times you will find running trails near schools or more populated areas.
  4. Parks. Most larger parks, such as state parks, offer running trails. If you have a larger park in your area, you are probably going to find a running trail. Sometimes you may have to pay to enter parks, so keep that in mind when you're on the search for a running trail.

Tips:

Always be careful when checking out a new running trail. Sometimes running trails can be secluded, so try not to go alone if you can help it. Until you are familiar with the area, it is a good idea to take a companion along with you.
