Learning how to fit eyeglasses is a task that must be done correctly. If your eyeglasses don't fit properly, they can be extremely uncomfortable or many even break. Everyone has their own needs when selecting a pair of eyeglasses. Some look for fashion while others look for function. One thing that every eyeglass wearer has in common is the need to have properly fitting eyeglasses.

In order to properly fit eyeglasses, you will need:

  • Mirror
  • Eyeglasses

Steps

  1. While looking in the mirror, examine the shape of your face. Eyeglass frames should enhance the look of your face. Determine whether your face is oval, square, round, oblong, triangle, or diamond.
  2. Try on different pairs. Try on as many as you need. Experiment with the thickness, shape, and size of the various frames. The glasses should not rest on your cheeks or touch temples. They should not cover the eyebrows either. Adjust the comfort my moving the nosepiece or ear piece.
  3. For prescription eyeglasses, a technician should fit your frames to ensure the optical center of the lens is in line with your eye. Practice different facial expressions during the fitting to get a fit for daily life.
  4. Depending on your lifestyle, choose the frames for your activity level. If you are very active, plastic frames may be best. They are usually the most comfortable and durable. If you are clumsy, these may be the best option. If you play sports, opt for plastic. Metal frames are considered the more stylish choice. These are usually very fashionable and lightweight. Metal frames also bend easier.
