How To Fix A Slow Computer
Need to know how to fix a slow computer? You don't need to be a system administrator to do the simple task of removing items that are running in the background causing your computer to run really slow. Before we begin, you will want to close out of open windows, save your current work, and lets begin!
1. Steps to get to the System Configuration Window. In order to remove the items running in the back ground, that cause the system to run really slow, we have to go to the system configuration window. To get to this window go to start -> run -> type in msconfig -> press enter. It should now display the system configuration window.
2. System Configuration window. In this window you will notice five tabs. The tab we are looking for is the Startup tab. Click on the Startup tab.
3. Startup tab. As you can see, there are a lot of items running in the background that slow your computer down. You will want to remove all items you are not using by unchecking them, but make sure not to uncheck the operating system startup items. The operating system items need to run in the background, they will have microsoft as the manufacture. If you are unsure which ones to uncheck you can just leave it checked. Some should be self-explanatory. After you have unchecked startup items click Apply and then click OK. The computer will ask to restart. Let the computer restart.
4. Restart. The computer will boot up and you may notice it does not run as slow. A screen will come up telling you about the startup items that were unchecked just click the "do not sure this screen again" and then press ok.
Note: You can also remove temp files by going to Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Browsing History -> Delete -> Temporary Internet files -> delete files. This will delete all temp files, which can slow down your computer as well.
