Some fixes to a skateboard truck is a quick activity, others are not doable. Understanding the difference will save you time and effort. Learning how to fix a skateboard truck will save you replacement costs for the entire truck. Skateboard trucks normally break in certain areas. These being the bushings, king pin and crack in the truck. If you experience a break to the threads, then you need to replace the truck. All other repairs can be accomplished. This article will touch on repairs that are possible when dealing with skateboard trucks.

  • Skateboard trucks
  • Soldering iron
  • .44 Resin Core solder
  • Epoxy
  • New bushings
  • New kingpin
  • Skateboard tool or ½ inch wrench

How to fix skateboard trucks:

  1. We will look at several repairs. If you have a broken king pin, use the skateboard tool to remove the kingpin. The king pin is the bolt that fits into the truck where the bushing are located. Remove the broken king pin and bushings. Place the bushings back into the truck and replace the king pin with the new one.
  2. To replace broken bushings remove the king pin with the skateboard tool. Remove the broken or brittle bushings from their position. Replace with new bushing and reinsert the king pin.
  3. Cracks in the truck or truck base are managed with epoxy or solder. If the crack is small enough, fill it with epoxy. For larger cracks, operate the soldering iron and used the .44 resin core. Melt the solder completely into the crack and top off with epoxy.
